It Started With One More Bedtime Story...

All Power Man began with a sleepy little boy, a dark bedroom, and a mom searching for one more story before the lights went out.One night, Thomas dreamed up a superhero who could do absolutely anything. More than fifty adventures later, we've discovered that even a hero with every power in the universe has one that matters most: kindness.

Our Story

All Power Man began the way so many of the best things in our house do, with a sleepy little boy, a dark bedroom, and a mom searching for one more story before the lights went out.One night, my son Thomas decided he needed a superhero with every power in the universe. Not just flight or strength or speed, but all of them at once. And so he invented a hero who could do absolutely anything and named him All Power Man.There was never any question in his mind about who was wearing the cape. And honestly, there was never any question in mine either.What I didn't expect was how much that one silly bedtime idea would come to mean to both of us.When your hero can do anything, winning is never really the point. So our stories slowly became about something much bigger. Every villain who wandered into the city carried a reason with them, a hurt feeling, a misunderstanding, or a day that had gone terribly sideways.And instead of being defeated, they were understood.One story at a time, our villains became friends, and All Power Man's greatest power turned out to be the one I most hoped Thomas would carry with him into the world:
kindness.Somewhere along the way, I realized we'd built something far more precious than a bedtime routine.All Power Man became a way for us to talk about whatever we needed to talk about. Big feelings, brave moments, hard lessons about making things right. All tucked gently inside an adventure Thomas couldn't wait to hear. Even a family cold once found its way into a story, because in our house, nothing is too ordinary to become a little bit magical.Thomas has the most creatively brilliant mind I have ever known. There are nights when he starts describing the next adventure in such wild, wonderful detail that I quietly reach for my phone and turn on a voice memo. I can't bear the thought of losing a single twist of what he imagines.The truth is, his ideas are always better than anything I could dream up on my own. And getting to build these stories alongside him is one of the great joys of my life.Now, more than fifty stories later and still counting, All Power Man has spilled out of his bedroom and into every corner of our lives.What started as one hero has grown into an entire city, with a toy factory on the riverbank, a guild of crabs, a robot frog named Frogzilla who says everything he needs to with a croak and a bounce, and even a Meatballer, dreamed up by dad.Everyone we love has heard a story or two. Visiting family members have gleefully invented villains (or heroes) of their own, because in our family, everyone gets to add a little something to the story. Every new chapter of our lives seems to inspire another adventure.When I was little, my mom used to watch TV with us in the evenings. And without fail, no matter what the show had been about, she'd turn to us at the end and say something like:"And that is why we don't...."I like to think All Power Man is my homage to her. A way of passing along those same gentle lessons, wrapped in a compassionate story and told by someone who loves you very much.We've fallen so completely in love with these adventures that we decided to turn them into a podcast. Partly so Thomas can listen whenever his heart wants to, and partly because we hope other families might find a little magic in them, too. We tell them the way we believe children deserve to hear them, with big words and even bigger imaginations.So get cozy, gather your little heroes, and come join us in the city.And who knows?
